MEMS
Design & Fabrication Manager
Research & Development
We are developing implantable diagnostic
and drug delivery devices based on MEMS technology. As a result, MicroCHIPS
is seeking a manager to lead the process design and fabrication of these
systems. The candidate will support the research and development team
during the development phase, manage MEMS activities with two key suppliers,
as well as assist with the delivery of product suitable for clinical
use under ISO guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Support the R&D team in the development
of new implantable devices
- Assist in the design of micro-scale substrates
based on a solid foundation of wafer fabrication
- Develop and validate manufacturing processes
consistent with design and clinical requirements
- Contribute to project plans, prototyping efforts,
and project reporting
- Manage process engineers and external suppliers
- Support manufacturing engineering in qualifying critical
suppliers and processes
- Identify and help establish systems for the creation
of a controlled manufacturing facility
Skills/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline
(EE, ChE, MSE, ME preferred). Master of Science or higher a plus.
- 5 + years industrial experience in MEMS design, process
development and manufacturing
- Experience with MEMS inspection and process validation
- Experience in supplier management as well as managing
other engineers
- Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail and a
team-oriented work approach are essential.

Senior
Manufacturing Engineer / Manager
Electromechanical & Implantable Medical Devices
We are seeking a senior manufacturing engineer to lead
the fabrication and assembly efforts for an implantable diagnostic medical
device. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting R&D
efforts, new product introduction, and establishing systems to support
manufacturing a Class III implantable device consistent with FDA good
manufacturing practices. This position may also grow into a manufacturing
engineering management position as MicroCHIPS enters the product commercialization
phase.
Responsibilities:
- Support the R&D team in the development
of new implantable device
- Conceive novel fabrication and assembly techniques
(incorporate design for manufacturing and assembly methods)
- Identify and interface with appropriate manufacturing
partners (for electromechanical and micro electromechanical systems
as well as potential contract manufactures)
- Lead prototype efforts
- Document manufacturing plans, process failure
modes and effects analysis, and protocols
- Define the manufacturing systems and operating procedures
required for a Class III medical device
- Define and lead the creation of a controlled manufacturing
facility
- Assist in establishing systems for ISO 13485 certification.
Skills/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in mechanical or manufacturing
engineering. Master of Science a plus.
- 10 + years industrial experience in medical device
manufacturing
- Knowledge in Class II and Class III medical device
manufacturing (manufacturing systems as well as processes)
- Process knowledge should include: electromechanical
assembly, microscopy assisted assembly, precision deposition methods,
injection molded plastic components, laser welding of titanium, as
well as hermetic assembly techniques. Exposure to microfabrication
techniques a plus.
- Extensive experience with verification and validation
of manufacturing processes
- Training and experience in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
principles
- Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail
and a team-oriented work approach are essential.

Biomedical
Engineer
Biochemical Sensors, Implantable Medical Devices
We are seeking a junior biomedical engineer to help
the Research & Development group develop novel biochemical sensors
as part of an implantable diagnostic medical device. The ideal candidate
will have experience and interest in electrochemistry and is also very
comfortable working in a laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in all aspects of sensor design, algorithm
development, fabrication and testing including development of methods
to deposit biological and polymeric materials on mm-scale electrodes
- Design biocompatible and robust sensor packaging
- Fabricate sensors and assemble chips
- Design in vitro tests to evaluate sensor performance
- Test completed sensors (from buffer and enzyme preparation
to conducting tests, plotting data, and helping to interpret results)
- Collaborate with preclinical staff to carry out in
vivo testing.
- Candidate will be responsible for maintaining supplies,
preparing reagents, operating automated assembly and test equipment.
Skills/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in biomedical or chemical
engineering. Master of Science a plus.
- 1 to 5 years industrial experience in a research
and development environment
- Working knowledge of biosensors or in vitro
diagnostics, and a strong background in chemistry preferable
- Experience with polymer membranes, transport
phenomenon, physiology, and microfabrication is desirable
- Use spreadsheets and statistical tools to process
sensor data
- Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail
and a team-oriented work approach are essential.
